 Do fish drink water?

Free Fishes Underwater photo and picture

Fish live in water, so they are constantly surrounded by it. They don't drink water in the same way that humans or land animals do, but they do absorb water through their skin and gills. Fish extract dissolved oxygen from the water through their gills, which is essential for their respiration. In the process, they also passively absorb some water. This helps to maintain their internal balance of fluids and salts.

However, it's important to note that fish have evolved specific physiological adaptations to extract oxygen and maintain their hydration from their aquatic environment. They don't actively seek out and consume water as a separate act of drinking like some terrestrial animals do.
